Year 12 Islamic Sexual Ethics Assignment

There are TWO sections of this assignment a speech and a discussion. Each is due at a different time. Read below carefully.

Section One: Speech (15 Marks)
You an Islamic scholar who has been asked to be a guest speakers for Year 12 Studies of Religion students studying sexual ethics. You are to write a speech focusing on ONE area of sexual ethics. You are to briefly define and describe that area of sexual ethics and discuss the sources of ethical teaching in Islam on that area. Finally you are to analyse the influence of that area of sexual ethics in your own life as a Muslim living in Australia.

Notes on Speech:
  • Submission of the speech is due no later than 8.30am Tuesday 8th of June.
  • You may work individually or in pairs. If you choose to work in pairs you are to submit only ONE assignment in the sharing space and attach a breakdown of who completed what areas of the speech.
  • The Sharing Space is designed as a way for students to share their work. All work will be scanned for plagiarism and any student found to be plagiarising either an academic source or other student will be heavily penalised. Keep draft copies of your work in case any issues arise


Section Two: Discussion (5 Marks)
As a secondary piece of assignment students are required to download a peers assignment who has studied an area DIFFERENT to their own. They are to read it and discuss at least three ways in which their peers assignment was different from their own (either content, structure or approach), describe something they liked about their peers assignment and something they thought could be improved. They are to post this discussion on the discussion tab on the Sharing Space page.

Notes on Discussion:
  • Submission of discussion is due no later then 8.30am Thursday the 10th of June.
  • This is an opportunity for students to have their work evaluated by a peer. While constructive criticism is encouraged students are to direct their feedback to the quality of the work not to the person. Any swearing, putting down or bullying is not permitted and harsh penalties will occur for any students engaging in such activity.


General Notes
No excuses regarding network or hardware failure will be accepted. Be smart year 12. Back up your work and have it completed with enough time to spare. Marking criteria can be found on the guidelines and recommendations page. Best of luck, any questions please see your teacher.
